New Hanover Regional Medical Center Receives an “A” for Hospital Safety

Press Releases NewHanoverRMC

WILMINGTON, N.C. April 17, 2017 – New Hanover Regional Medical Center has earned an A grade from The Leapfrog Group, a nonprofit organization committed to driving quality, safety, and transparency in the U.S. health care system, for spring of 2017. Leapfrog assigns A, B, C, D and F letter grades to more than 2,600 hospitals nationwide.

“The Leapfrog report card validates our ongoing patient safety efforts,” said NHRMC CEO and President John Gizdic. “We are dedicated to providing the best care possible for our patients at every stage of their care.”

NHRMC was one of 823 hospitals to receive an “A” for its commitment to reducing errors, infections, and accidents that can harm patients. This is the seventh consecutive A rating NHRMC has received.

“Hospitals that earn top marks nationally in the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, have achieved the highest safety standards in the country,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “That takes commitment from every member of the hospital staff, who all deserve thanks and congratulations when their hospitals achieve an ‘A’ Safety Grade.”

The Hospital Safety Grade uses 30 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to produce a letter grade of A to F representing a hospital’s overall capacity to keep patients safe from preventable harm.
